The holidays are a time of joy for so many Calgarian’s and yet many struggle with sadness, grief, and anxiety during the festive season.
Here are 3 simple ways you can find support for a friend, co-worker, or yourself:
- Calgary Counselling Centre, DistressCentre, and the Calgary Mental Health Association are few of the local organizations that have trained and dedicated staff that will assist with short and long-term solutions for the challenges that you or your friend faces regardless of age or economic standing. The Calgary Counselling Centre offers a sliding fee scale for those that have financial constraints.
- Be Available. Give the gift of time this season by simply taking time to listen, invite them on social outings, or offering up a spot at your table for Christmas dinner. You may not be able to fix all of their concerns but knowing that someone cares often goes a long way.
- Take Something Off Their To-Do List. It is a busy time of year and small acts of kindness such as shoveling their walk, offering to pick up any holiday gifts or groceries they need while you’re out, or planning a play-date with the kids or fur-babies will ensure that they can make time to emotionally take care of themselves.
Help spread a lighter, brighter, holiday season by starting the conversation and making mental health a priority this year.
